The Truth About Pre-Washed Lettuce

For many busy shoppers, pre-washed bagged lettuce seems like the perfect convenience food. It is marketed as clean, ready-to-eat, and perfect for quick salads without the extra work. Yet not everyone feels comfortable trusting the label. One woman recently found herself in a friendly disagreement with her husband after watching him eat lettuce straight from the bag. While he believed the package instructions were enough, she wondered whether giving it another rinse was still the safer choice.

The debate is surprisingly common. Many people assume that all fresh produce should be washed before eating, no matter what the packaging says.
