He Left My Pregnant Mom and 9 Kids for a Younger Woman — Ten Years Later, He Wanted to Come Back

I was fifteen when my father gathered all of us in the church basement and told us something that would change our lives forever. There were nine of us standing there, and my mom was eight months pregnant with the tenth child. He cleared his throat and said that God was “calling him somewhere else.” At the time I didn’t fully understand what he meant. I just remember the confusion on my siblings’ faces and the way my mother stood silently beside him, trying to keep her composure. That night, he left the house and never came back.

Not long after, we learned the real reason. The “calling” he talked about was actually a twenty-two-year-old soprano from the church choir. The same man who always talked about family and faith had walked away from ten children and a pregnant wife. The years that followed were some of the hardest our family ever faced. Money was tight, sometimes painfully so. We shared rooms, wore hand-me-down clothes, and watched our mom work late-night cleaning jobs just to keep the lights on.

Despite everything, my mother never once spoke badly about him. Not a single word. Even when things were difficult, she focused only on raising us and keeping the family together. Somehow she managed to give us love, discipline, and hope even when exhaustion showed in her eyes. As the years passed, we grew up, helped each other, and slowly built something strong together—a family that survived even without the man who once promised to lead it.

Then, ten years later, the phone rang. It was him. The young woman he had left us for was gone, and suddenly he wanted to come back. He said he had made mistakes. He said he missed his family and wanted a second chance. My mom looked conflicted, her heart still soft despite everything he had done. I told him we would all meet for a family dinner and sent him an address for Sunday evening.

When he arrived, smiling and hopeful, he quickly realized something was different. It wasn’t our home—it was a ceremony hall. Family members and friends were already gathered inside. My mother stood at the front of the room, surrounded by the children she had raised alone. That night wasn’t about welcoming him back. It was about celebrating the woman who carried ten children through the hardest years of her life and proved that strength, loyalty, and love don’t disappear just because someone else walks away.
